Adjusted annual income
The percentage applies to adjusted annual income — total income from all sources (wages, self-employment, the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend, benefits, and more) minus mandatory deductions: federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare, mandatory retirement contributions, union dues, and child support or alimony already being paid for prior obligations. Enter that adjusted figure and the calculator applies the percentage.

The cap and variations
Rule 90.3 applies the percentage up to a high-income ceiling that the court reviews periodically; above it, extra support must be justified by the children’s needs. A court can also vary the guideline amount for good cause — unusual income, a child’s special needs, or hardship — with written findings. This calculator applies the base percentage and leaves those adjustments to the court.

Shared and divided custody
When each parent has the children for at least 30% of the year (about 110 overnights), Alaska switches to the shared-custody formula in Rule 90.3(f): each parent’s percentage obligation is calculated, multiplied by 1.5 and by the proportion of time the children spend with the other parent, and the two are offset so the higher-obligation parent pays the difference. Divided custody (each parent has primary custody of at least one child) offsets each parent’s primary-custody amount. Because those require both parents’ incomes and the exact time split, this calculator computes the primary-custody figure and flags when the shared formula applies so you can use the Rule 90.3(f) worksheet.

What this calculator does not do
It computes the primary-custody percentage of adjusted annual income with the $50 minimum. It does not calculate your adjusted-income deductions, run the shared- or divided-custody offset (Rule 90.3(f)), apply the high-income cap, or grant a good-cause variation.
